KARL LAGERFELD talks succession at CHANEL

Paris

The seemingly immortal Karl Lagerfeld may be mortal after all. In a recent interview with Numéro Magazine the Kaiser mused about his possible successor at Chanel...

"I have a contract for life so it all depends on who I would like to hand it to. At the moment I'd say Haider Ackermann."

The little known Columbian born Ackerman graduated from the Antwerp Fashion Academy of Fine Arts and started his own line in 2001. He also worked for Rick Owens.

--My first thought was... "WHO IS HAIDER ACKERMANN???"
And here is some info on him...

"Ackerman's show is full of silken jersey dresses, decked with panels of various block colours. It is remarkably reminiscent of the show by young designer Jonathan Saunders in London … but while Saunders is being puffed beyond expectation by the British fashion industry, Ackerman is more realistically viewed by the French as one to watch.” —Hadley Freeman The Guardian

--And after doing some research and checking google images for his designs I really don't understand the possible marriage of Chanel and Ackermann... surely there is someone more suitable for the label who Chanel herself would approve of.

What do you guys think?
Is Haider Ackermann a suitable prospect for the successor of Chanel?
Do we see the death of a legacy soon approaching?

"Lanvin Hits The High Street"

This is an update of  the blog LC made earlier. I remember talking about it in class and what we all thought about it and how the public would feel....Well they loved it!
These are pictures of scenes on Regent Street the day that  the collection was on sale. Lanvin for H&M collection went on sale at 9am.Some of the shoppers at the front of the queue had been there since last night. The rest came about 7 in the morning to avoid the queue only to realize they were late.
200-strong queue who were allowed in as orderly groups of 30, strictly controlled by security staff.
Pictures from the collection:

Like it so far?

Maria: Tavi Gevinson goes Wintour

I guess you all remember miss Tavi and her sensational appearance in fashion industry.
Well it seems that Tavi wants to get it all.

She recently wrote on her blog that her  and legendary Jane Pratt (she was the founding editor of  Sassy magazine in 1988) will put their minds together to start  a whole  new magazine that will be orientated on teenagers.(name of a future magazine and date of release  remains unknown)
To give you some background on  Sassy magazine:  "It called out celebrities and politicians for being assholes, educated its readers on politics without sounding biased, and focused on fashion in a way that was unconventional. It was lipstick feminism for teenage girls, covering sexist issues but not discouraging having fun with makeup or caring about boys." Unfortunately it was closed down at 1994

And here is one of  the covers of Sassy mag and it's also  my personal  favorite, i guess you understand why *)

Apparently Tavi and Jane wont try to recreate the magazine...As Tavi says herself : "Of course, it won’t be Sassy (or the rebirth of Sassy, or Sassy 2.0) and nor do we want it to be. For one, you can’t try to recreate something that good. For another, while I can read old issues of Sassy and relate, the world has changed a bit in the past 15 or so years, and that whole Internet thing happened, and this world calls for something different."

So...What do you think? Will  Tavi and Jane  finally produce a teenage  magazine that is worth reading? Is it  OK for a 13 year old girl to be ...well...a co-editor ?Jane Pratt was 26 years old when Sassy was created does it mean that Tavi is treated like a mature fashion stylist? Or is it just a smart way of attracting attention to a new project and all work will be done by Jane while Tavi will be "representing" the magazine?

How thin is too thin?

I'm sure that everyone knows this famous model reality called America’s Next Top Model ; I'm one of the fan of this show; The picture show I show you is the latest cycle which is cycle 15.

Here's the thing..

well...her name is Ann and some claim that she has the smallest waist in the world. (no doubt about that). Mrs. Jay can put his hands around it and have his fingers touch. There are lots of feedback about this unhealthy body that Tyra Banks herself appeared to be supporting this kind of body.

If u watch this link I post you'll see Tyra said “there’s something about her that I like!”
Can u imagine what the feedback would be? YES! They all doubt if Tyra wants the girls to be this thin; and how Tyra's attitude would effect the young dreamy girl who want to be a model. Will they try to have this kind of unhealthy body?

Tyra already stood out and wrote something on her blog which is...

First and foremost, I want to give a personal shout-out to each and every one of you who spoke out and took a stance on the Top Model Cycle 15 teaser trailer that was released last week.  My life’s mission is to expand the definition of beauty—EVERY kind of beauty! This is one of the reasons I created America’s Next Top Model just 8 years and 15 Cycles ago…since then we’ve challenged all different stereotypes of beauty with race, weight, height and beyond.  The overwhelming response sparked by the Top Model trailer shows that the overarching message of the show—to accept and celebrate all types of beauty—is reaching and affecting our viewers.  I knew I had to address this once I realized that this message was on the line.
On behalf of the entire Top Model team, I am truly sorry for the style in which the Top Model promo clip was presented. Like all of my projects, I am extremely involved in “America’s Next Top Model” from casting the final contestants to conceptualizing the episode challenges, but with all the work and details that go into producing a TV show, I can’t be 100 places at once (although I try), but it’s just impossible for me to see everything that’s created before it’s released to all of you!  That being said I can assure you—that cut has been removed from the CW airwaves, and the message conveyed in that video was NOT intentional, and is certainly not Top Model- or Tyra-approved.  The Top Modelteam is extremely talented and truly enjoys creating fun, engaging promos and episodes for you. The team really wants to entertain you, while promoting and embracing multiple forms of beauty. Sometimes in the quest to have fun in a limited amount of time, especially in a 20-second promo, our overarching message can be misconstrued, and in this case it most certainly was.

But my point is what the PR gonna deal with this situation? Is Tyra's statement gonna work? Do they gonna believe what Tyra wrote on her blog? (personally I do LOL)
Is this one of the way they try to promote their show? etc.

10-Year-Old Fashion Designer

While other little girls were watching cartoons, or playing with Barbie dolls, Cecilia Cassini was reading fashion magazines and learning how to sew. Now, at 10 years of age, she’s already an established fashion designer for kids.

(An image of Cecilia with one of her designs.)

Cecilia Cassini, from Encino, California, began her career as fashion designer, when she was just 5 years old. She cut up her sister’s Betsy Johnson dress, when no one was looking, and adjusted it to her own design. For her 6th birthday, she received a sewing machine and began taking sewing lessons. At 7 years old, she wrote a letter to her favorite fashion designer, Coco Channel, for school, and designed her own logo, at 8.

(Cecilia Cassini's fashion label logo)

It’s safe to say Cecilia was very creative, from an early age, but she got her big break last year, when her mother mentioned to a store owner that her daughter made dresses. During a trunk show, the fifth-grader sold 50 pieces. Things started happening, from there, and now Miss Cassini has her own manager, no other than Pilar DeMann, the woman behind the Kardashians’ rise to power.

Cecilia Cassini  and her fashion creations are becoming more and more popular, with each passing day, and she’s even opened up a cool-looking website, where people can check out and order her works. Another super-kid that’s going places, fast.

For more information on press, designs, about, contacts and shopping visit http://www.ceciliacassini.com/ OR full article at
http://www.odditycentral.com/pics/cecilia-cassini-the-10-year-old-fashion-designer.html

Here are some of her designs:

A dress from "The Paris Creations" collection
A dress from "The Milan Creations" collection
A top from "The New York Creations" collection
One of her "Design Tee's"
Dress from "The High Fashion" collection
Dress from "The Couture Creations" collection

--So I think this is charming and pretty impressive considering the designer is a 10 year old girl!! Other than that she already has 2 stores in California, a blog and 6 collections! She goes as far as offering "Custom Fittings" for her clients and a young couturier herself  describing her works as “each dress is unique and one-of-a-kind just like the Mona Lisa and Chanel’s chains.” (Cecilia) She designs clothes for young girls her age and honestly if I was 10 years old I would want absolutely everything from her line... its so cute, so colorful, fun and youthful... I think it is wonderful and fully support it and who knows, some day we might be wearing her designs. Many celebrities and designers are already showing their support and endorsement including Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Diane Von Furstenburg and Jenna Bush! She has been mentioned/ featured in magazines and newspapers such as Vogue, People, Runway, Grazia, Los Angeles Times and many more.

Do you guys think her label will last or is this just a little fad?
Do you think she has any promising talent?
and finally Do you think it is suitable for such a young child to be in the workforce and essentially having a job at this age?

(I just had to post this right away when I heard about it on Chic Channel)

From Mr.s Jacobs to Lea T.

I just found a new magazine for fashion people which is actually nice and it called "Industrie Magazine". To be honest I never heard of that name before since I was trying to find some news to post on the blog and I ran out into this...

Photographed by Patrick Demarchelier and styled by Katie Grand

Yesss it's Mrs Marc Jacobs!!
I know it's not a new idea dressing up a man like women and moreover it's not a big deal at all when we all barely see Marc Jacobs naked by somehow but still...it got my attention. So I try to search more about this magazine into their website which is http://industriemagazine.com/

this is the cover of the first issue

They used one of most powerful people in fashion industries and even if they're not dress up Anna in bikinis (which I promise it's gonna be a huge succeed of the magazine LOL) but Anna herself got an attention from fashion people easily. And If you look into the link I post down there (still don't know how to post the video clip) you will see the way they show the info. article or fashion photograph inside and it's really cool at least in my opinion :)

interesting : is it some kind of a trend using half male half female model on the cover to draw attention from the publicity. Because once as we all remember that Maria post the cover of Candy Magazine which had James Franco dressed up so diva

and another one I found is...Lea T. Some people might see her from the Givenchy ads or on the runway an other fashion magazine and I just realized that she's a man!! Not once a man because she still doesn't have a transexual operation and we see it ALL so CLEAR in Vogue Paris August issue

sorry if it's too sexy LOL

maybe this could be a new era of the transexual model/designer in the fashion industries to come out in public :)

Maria: update on a Balmain dress and Givenchy vs BCBG Max Azria

First of all i just want to go back to my previous post and mention that Balmain dress did appear on one more cover, Anne Hathaway is posing in this dress on a cover of Elle december issue. Well we already  had our thoughts and opinions expressed on that one. I guess it just made the whole situation even more ridiculous. Not that Balmain minds the overexposure.

"None of the magazines asked for cover exclusivity," a spokeswoman for the label told the Daily Mail.
Here is the cover...

And now back to the  main topic..
It seems that fashion houses nowadays  lost their sense of credibility  and well.. self pride.
One more controversial situation, this time featuring Givenchy and BCBG Max Azria. Givenchy is suing BCBGeneration which is a 2nd line of BCBG Max Azria. I bet you're wondering why?
Well  Givenchy believes that BCBG Max Azria stole the design of their bag "Nightmare" and  produced a similar bag with a name "Rembrandt". Cost of Givenchy "Nightmare" is $ 2 175 when cost of "Rembrandt" is less than $120. According  to Givenchy their company earned around 50 million dollars on that bag and  they dont want another company get any profits by stealing their ideas and designs. Givenchy demands to take  "Rembrandt" off sales and a certain amount of money to be paid as compensation.
Here is a picture that features both bags. On left you can see "Rembrandt" and on your  right is "Nightmare"

"[The handbag] is likely to cause consumers, the public, and the trade to erroneously believe that [BCBGeneration's bags] are authorised, sponsored, and/or approved by Givenchy when, in fact, they are not," reads Givenchy's legal statement."

looking the part isn't enough, now you can also smell like death!

We just can’t get enough of this Gossip Girl starlet. Check out the Taylor Momsen Galliano ad campaign! The ad features the starlet lounging backstage.
According to WWD, the ad portrays Momsen’s as a traveling rock star. Alone in Berlin, with no online communication, she has to write a love letter to her beau back at home. The concept surely ties in with the fragrance bottle (Notice the postage stamp on the side). The floral and fruity chypre scent launches in mid-October.

--Ok now it is my turn. THIS IS NASTY!!! People should not be encouraging this child to look like the dirty raccoon she is (even though she does look much cleaner for the ad, no surprise.) but seriously, she is a 17 year old messed up kid who recently PUBLICLY  blamed her parents for the way she dresses and acts... UMMMMM okayyyy I understand she was a child star since the age of 2 years old and her parents were some crazy stage parents but how does that make you want to look like this:

“Everyone’s like, ‘Wow, why is she upset and why is she so miserable about things?’ My parents signed me up with Ford (modeling agency) at the age of two. No two year old wants to be working, but I had no choice. My whole life, I was in and out of school. I didn’t have friends. I was working constantly and I didn’t have a real life.” --Taylor Momsen

Here is an interview she did about the ad campaign:

--Anyway good for her that people still find her worthy of being the face of something but seriously if I owned a FASHION HOUSE and let me repeat that again, if I was working in FASHION I would want nothing to do with this cheap, old, dirty, offensive and on the verge of child pornography look. I don't know what is going on in Galliano's mind, seriously I know he does the unexpected but why do we (as consumers) have to put up with this unacceptable, low and tasteless direction many labels are taking on? Where is the glamor, the culture and the sophistication that once made fashion so untouchable? Well its out the door and now we are fed fashion trash.Who will buy this perfume other than little tweens who may follow Taylor Momsen? I don't think any adults would want to be associated with the 17 year old image of a damaged girl.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And here are brief updates on the other Gossip Girl female cast who ARE IN FACT a big influence on fashion nowadays, I remember frankly debating with Maria about it in class so here is how they are (or aren't) fashion icons of this decade...
Despite the fact that every young female (and admit it, males) is head over heels about the number 1 ranking television show Gossip Girl and follow the cast of celebrities as if they are Gods of some sort but here are some of their other projects in fashion:
Leighton Meester:
Ad Campaigns/ Endorsements-Herbal Essences, Clearasil, Reebok and most recently Vera Wang fragrances ($3 Million 2 year contract)
Other than that, like most of the Gossip Girl crew you will find her on most magazine covers.
Blake Lively:
Other than the fact that she has appeared as the cover girl for almost all magazines such as Vogue, W, Interview, Marie Claire, Esquire, Glamour, Seventeen, Nylon and the list keeps going, but she is also on every best dressed list, at every big event and is always a star people look forward to seeing in her great selection of looks. She is also still the most popular celebrity (female) from the Gossip Girl crew and is somewhat of a sex symbol in the eyes of men, women and the fashion industry.
Jessica Szohr:
There is less buzz surrounding her compared to the other Gossip Girls but she is still featured on many magazine covers including Teen Vogue, Nylon and Asos. She is also featured alongside other leading, stylish and iconic TV show actors (including cast of Glee and 90210) for the 2010 Op ad campaign which is only sold in Walmart.

Anyway this was a very extensive and probably mostly unnecessary update, but I just wanted to prove my previous point made and to criticize Taylor Momsen because she is a total freak and if my younger sisters ever even dreamed to dress like that I would dis-own them, as should Galliano do to her for his ad campaign.

Ralph Lauren 4D experience

BOND STREET was closed last night for a one-off, ground-breaking digital presentation to celebrate the tenth anniversary of RALPHLAUREN.COM, Ralph Lauren's new on-line flagship store, which originally launched ten years ago as POLO.COM.

Bringing together technology and architecture with Ralph Lauren's world of fashion, fragrance, tennis and polo, the mesmerising projection showed the innovative way that bricks and mortar retailers could use their buildings as a canvas for advertising campaigns. Using digital mapping technology, the façade of the Mayfair store seemed to fall apart before being reconstructed again in the digital projection, as models, fragrance bottles, polo ponies and a waving Ralph Lauren himself appeared in a window.
We asked David Lauren, Ralph's son and the mastermind behind the project - is the future digital? "It's definitely one future," he told us, "and one we're really excited about."

Across the pond, Ralph Lauren's New York flagships received the same treatment as the two buildings on Madison Avenue were turned into stages for the four-dimensional spectacle, which required architecturally mapping every stone, cornice and window of the two stores. Experts behind the special effects seen in the Harry Potter films were also consulted for the 8-minute projections that were inspired by digital mapping technology seen on buildings in Amsterdam
